Gouges, seams and nail pops are fixed, then the ceiling is skim coated smooth and sanded.
Prime and Paint
The ceiling is primed so it is ready for paint, or we paint it for you.
Built before the mid 1980s? Test first.
Many textured and popcorn ceilings installed before the mid 1980s can contain asbestos. Before any removal on an older home, the texture should be sampled and lab tested. If a test comes back positive, the ceiling needs licensed abatement, and that part of the work is not something we perform. Once it's cleared, we handle the repair, skim coat and paint.
Ceiling Texture Removal Pricing
Ceiling texture removal is priced by square footage, texture type, ceiling height and how much repair the surface needs once the texture is off. We give you a firm written price after a free walkthrough.
Ceiling Texture Removal FAQs
How long does ceiling texture removal take?
Most single rooms take 1 to 2 days, including drying time between coats. The texture, ceiling condition and amount of repair affect the work involved.
Is it messy?
It is dusty and wet work, which is why we fully contain the room, cover floors, walls and fixtures, and clean up daily.
Can you just cover the texture instead of removing it?
Yes. Skim coating over the texture or installing new drywall over the existing ceiling are options in some cases. We will recommend the best route after seeing the ceiling. Older texture still needs testing before any work that could disturb it.
Do you paint the ceiling after?
Yes. We can leave it primed and paint ready, or finish the ceiling with paint.
Does popcorn ceiling contain asbestos?
Some textured and popcorn ceilings installed before the mid 1980s can contain asbestos. Older texture should be sampled and lab tested before removal. A positive result requires licensed abatement, which we do not perform. Once the ceiling is cleared, we handle repair, skim coating and paint.
